I saw this gem from Condoleeza Rice, when asked about the Congress not renewing the president's ability to "fast track" trade agreements, the Secretary of State said the following.
"America will lose an important diplomatic tool that has proven essential to bringing foreign leaders to the negotiating table and advancing our nation's broader foreign policy interests."
Diplomatic tool? You must be joking! The president has made it clear, he doesn't care about the opinion of anyone except VP Dick and Rovie. The next time we see diplomacy used as a tool by this administration will be the first time.
This is a classic example of an autocrat getting slapped in the face by the voice of the people. Let's be clear, Mr. President (of 26% approval-Newsweek poll). The reason why you are losing your ability to negotiate trade deals with out congressional approval is because of your unwillingness to play by the rules. Your branch, the executive branch is a separate but equal branch of the govenment. Your role is no greater than the role of the Congress (or the collective nine justices of the Supreme Court).
This administration's complaints about not getting what they want are becoming just plain laughable. Not just this diplomacy issue, but many others as well. Things like the Vice President claiming his office is not subject to executive orders, because he is not part of the executive branch. But that is another story. Just 571 days left in this debacle of a presidency.
